In applications such as IoT, one solution to providing low latency is to move computing power from the cloud to the edge of the network, or as close to the IoT device as possible. This reduces the time required for a connected device to communicate with an IoT algorithm and in turn cause that algorithm to operate an actuator or controller. Latency can be critical when safety or security is being achieved through the IoT service. Edge computing may be placed at or near the connected device to minimize latency. Consequently, edge computing can be an expensive solution because the edge of the network can be very large and include remote locations. So, having an accurate understanding of network latency, throughput, loss, jitter, and so on is critical to making informed edge computing decisions. Cheetah Networks PulseView™ provides visibility to these and other performance characteristics. |
